Le Pont de la Pétite Vache

Le Pont de la Petite Vache, Chartreuse, France
50cm x 70cm x 5cm Sculptural Watercolour® in a box frame
All that remains of the Pont de la Petite Vache is a single span of stonework that risks being finally swept away by the next large torrent that descends the valley below the peak of the same name.
That would be a sad end to a bridge that has withstood such adverse events since perhaps the 15th Century.
Note: Since the above was written at the time of the painting, this National Monument has now disappeared completely. Sadly, several unique aspects of the Chartreuse remain under constant threat of damage and destruction from both natural and man-made causes. The artist has stated repeatedly that the man-made destruction is completely unacceptable, whilst at the same time encouraging local groups to continue to draw attention to and also renovate this remarkable and largely unspoilt piece of cultural and natural heritage.
